《阿拉丁》是一部由華特迪士尼製作、於1992年首次上映的電腦動畫電影。電影於2011年被改編成百老匯音樂劇，在世界各地巡演，累積觀眾人數至今超過一千萬。真人版電影亦於2019年上映，保留多首1992年動畫電影中耳熟能詳的主題音樂。故事源自阿拉伯的民間故事《一千零一夜》中的「阿拉丁與神燈」。此樂曲選段由《阿拉伯之夜》起首，引領觀眾進入這個關於阿拉伯街童阿拉丁的故事。

 

阿拉丁獲得一盞可以召喚精靈的神燈，精靈告訴阿拉丁可以為他實現三個願望，並稱會成為他一位非常特別的朋友。樂曲《朋友如我》在動畫電影中由羅賓威廉斯聲演的神燈精靈主唱，在1993年第65屆奧斯卡金像獎及第50屆金球獎獲得最佳原創歌曲提名。

 

Aladdin is a 1992 American animated musical fantasy adventure film produced by Walt Disney. It was adapted into a Broadway musical in 2011 and has been seen in theatres by more than 10 million people worldwide. It was adapted into a live-action film in 2019 with most of the songs from the 1992 animated film. It is based on the Arabic folktale of the same name from One Thousand and One Nights. Opening with the theme of Arabian Nights, this medley retells the beginning of the story of Aladdin, an Arabian street urchin.

 

Aladdin finds a magic lamp containing a genie. After Aladdin released the Genie from his lamp, the Genie explained that he could give Aladdin almost anything within a limit of three wishes, stressing that he was a friend unlike any other. Friend Like Me was performed by Robin Williams in his role as the Genie in the animated film. The song was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 65th Academy Awards and the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Song at the 50th Golden Globe Awards in 1993.

《夢斷城西》的歌舞場面盛大、氣派十足，台前幕後演出班底均來自百老匯，水準甚高，音樂鮮明獨特，歌詞意味深長，全劇充滿活力激情。此劇不但被流行樂界視為百老匯的經典，還被古典樂界視為現代歌劇的典範。

 

West Side Story is probably the best-known musical of the great American composer Leonard Bernstein, based in the Manhattan slums and on Shakespeare’s classic tragedy Romeo and Juliet. The story ultimately advocates the unchanged, ever-sought-after virtue of love.

West Side Story displays grandiose and magnificent scenes of dancing and singing, with a full Broadway crew and cast. With its unique and bright music, meaningful lyrics, and vigour and passion, it is not only seen by the popular music industry as a classic of Broadway productions, but also a model of modern opera in the classical music circle.

《仙樂飄飄處處聞》是一部改編自Maria von Trapp的著作《崔普家庭演唱團》的音樂劇，由羅傑斯作曲，漢默斯坦二世作詞。該劇描述來自薩爾斯堡一所修道院的實習修女瑪莉亞到崔普家擔任教職，然後贏得孩童們的心、與男主僱相愛、結婚並組織家庭樂團，最後有驚無險逃離納粹魔掌的故事。此曲由該劇中的多首著名歌曲組成，包括《The Sound of Music》、《Do-Re-Mi》、《My Favourite Things》及《Climb Ev’ry Mountain》。

 

The Sound of Music is a musical with music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, based on the book The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp. In Salzburg, Austria, Maria, a woman studying in the Roman Catholic sisterhood in a convent, was sent to be a governess of the seven children of Captain Georg Ritter von Trapp. After winning the children’s hearts by teaching the family the joyful art of singing, Maria married the Captain. After a family concert, the family fled from Nazist-controlled Austria to Switzerland. This medley is based on six famous songs from the musical, which includes The Sound of Music, Do-Re-Mi, My Favourite Things and Climb Ev’ry Mountain.

這套音樂劇於1986年在倫敦西區及1988年在百老匯首演，並奪得1986年奧利花獎及1988年東尼獎最佳音樂劇獎，男主角亦奪得最佳演員獎。《歌聲魅影》是百老匯史上公演時間最長的音樂劇，至2012年已演出一萬場，亦是首部創造這項紀錄的音樂劇。

 

The Phantom of the Opera is a musical with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber. Based on the 1910 French novel of the same name by Gaston Leroux, its central plot revolves around a beautiful soprano, Christine Daaé, who becomes the obsession of a mysterious, disfigured musical genius living in the subterranean labyrinth beneath the Paris Opera building.

 

The musical opened in London’s West End in 1986, and on Broadway in 1988. It won the 1986 Olivier Award and the 1988 Tony Award for Best Musical, and Michael Crawford (in the title role) won the Olivier and Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Musical. It is the longest running show in Broadway history by a wide margin, and celebrated its 10,000th Broadway performance on 11 February 2012, the first production to ever do so.

Chicago is an American musical film with music by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and screenplay by Ebb and Bob Fosse. Set in Jazz Age Chicago, the musical is based on a 1926 play of the same name by reporter Maurine Dallas Watkins about actual criminals and crimes she reported on. The story is a satire on corruption in the administration of criminal justice and the concept of the “celebrity criminal”. This medley includes three of the many popular themes from the musical, My Own Best Friend, Razzle Dazzle and the most famous And All that Jazz.

Memory is the most successful song from the musical Cats, composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber, based on the 1939 poetry collection Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats by T. S. Eliot. It tells the story of a tribe of cats called the Jellicles and the night they make the “Jellicle choice”, deciding which cat will come back to a new life. As of 2019, Cats remains the fourth-longest-running Broadway show and the sixth-longest-running West End show.

 

Memory is sung primarily by the character Grizabella as a melancholic remembrance of her glamorous past and as a plea for acceptance. The song is the climax of the musical and by far its best-known song, having achieved mainstream success outside of the musical.

In 1991, Walt Disney Feature Animation produced the animated musical romantic fantasy film Beauty and the Beast. It is based on the 1756 French fairytale of the same name by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, and ideas from the 1946 French film of the same name directed by Jean Cocteau. The soundtrack in the movie was a massive success, receiving universal praise and recognition from both film and music critics. The music featured on the album won several awards, including the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score, the Academy Award for Best Original Score and the Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Composition Written for a Motion Picture or for Television.

A Whole New World is the love and theme song from Disney’s 1992 animated feature film Aladdin performed by Aladdin and Jasmine. It describes Aladdin showing the confined princess a life of freedom and the pair’s acknowledgement of their love for each other while riding on a magic carpet. The song garnered an Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 65th Academy Awards and the Grammy Award for Song of the Year at the 36th Annual Grammy Awards.

《孤星淚》是法國大文豪雨果的代表作之一，故事刻劃現實生活的殘酷，以批判十九世紀法國社會的不公義。腐敗的統治階層令社會問題惡化，貧富懸殊加劇，人民飽受嚴苛的法律和階級觀念壓抑，奮而起義。小說在1980年被改編為歷來最成功的音樂劇之一，2012年的電影版本更是贏盡口碑。

 

故事講述尚萬強多年前為了捱餓的家人偷麪包而遭到重判，服刑十九年後獲假釋，卻因社會對釋囚的歧視未能重投社會而潛逃，而被探員賈維爾窮追不捨。尚萬強後來領養了芳婷的遺孤珂賽特展開新生。多年後珂賽特與共和黨人馬留斯相愛，劇中角色亦因而捲入1832年的巴黎起義。音樂劇中有多首扣人心弦的歌曲，Dreamers將為大家演奏當中最為人熟悉的幾首。

 

Les Misérables, written by Victor Hugo, is considered one of the greatest novels of the nineteenth century. It condemns the unjust class structure and the corrupt government of nineteenth-century France. The discontents in the society culminated in the Paris Uprising of 1832. The novel has been popularised through numerous adaptations, including a very successful musical and a recent film adaptation of the musical.

 

It tells the story of Jean Valjean, a peasant, and his quest for redemption after serving nineteen years in jail for having stolen a loaf of bread for his sister's starving child. Valjean broke his parole and started his life anew. However, he was relentlessly tracked down by police inspector Javert. Valjean adopted Cosette, the young daughter of Fantine, who once worked in Valjean’s factory, and finally learned to love. Years later, Cosette met and fell in love with Marius, a revolutionary from the upper class. And they were all caught up in the Paris Uprising of 1832. Today, Dreamers is going to perform a selection of songs from the musical, which tucked many heart strings with its memorable tunes.
