Mr. KWAN Tsz-lai Steve
Mr. Kwan is an active musician in symphonic music. Majored in trombone performance, he graduated from the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts in 1994 as the most outstanding student in the final year, at the same time winning the ˇ§Bernand Van Zuiden Prizeˇ¨ which is a scholarship for the most outstanding music graduates.
He started his career in music education and performance right after that. In 1992, he became a full-time professional trombonist of Hong Kong Sinfonietta. He also established Oriental Brass in the same year, and embarked on a series of highly successful concerts to Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and Macau, etc. In 1992-95, Mr. Kwan joined the Asian Youth Orchestra, which held concert tour around the world. Apart from his performing career, he is also highly enthusiastic in conducting. Since becoming the conductor of TWGHs Wong Fut Nam College Symphonic Band in 2000, he has led the band to win numerous prizes. He also brings the band around the world for musical exchanges and competitions every summer. In 2005, he won the ˇ§Outstanding Conductor Prizeˇ¨ in the 1st China High-class Amateur Band Festival.
Mr. Kwan has participated in the performances of various bands and orchestras. He is currently the trombonist of Hong Kong Sinfonietta and Oriental Brass. He is also the conductor of TWGHs Wong Fut Nam College Symphonic Band and Hong Kong Performers Winds. In recent years, he dedicated himself into music education to raise teenagers with potential in music.
